A Slot
A slot consists of the operation issue and data path machinery surrounding a set of one or more execution units that share these resources. In very long instruction word (VLIW) computers, the term slot is also used to refer to a specific pipeline of instructions that will execute.
The Process
A player inserts cash or, in “ticket-in, ticket-out” machines, a paper ticket with a barcode into a designated slot on the machine. Then the player activates the machine by pressing a lever or button, which triggers the reels to spin and stop at random locations.
